The Anglican Mission

Our Anglican Connections

The Anglican Mission is a mission outreach of the Anglican Province of Rwanda. The Mission's bishops are members of the Rwandan House of Bishops, and their consecrations have been conducted according to the Constitution and Canons of the Province of Rwanda, with Anglican Mission clergy received and ordained under its authority. The Anglican Mission played a significant role in establishing the Anglican Church in North America. While we focus on our primary call to build this Mission, we are connected to the ACNA as a Ministry Partner.

Purpose

The Anglican Mission exists to glorify God by building an alliance of congregations in North America committed to gathering, planting and serving dynamic churches in the Anglican tradition.

Goal

The Mission's goal is to reach the more than 150 million unchurched in the United States and Canada with the transforming reality of Jesus Christ.

Mission

The Mission is committed to evangelism through church planting, fulfilling Christ's Great Commandment and Great Commission.

Core Beliefs

The Anglican Mission celebrates unity in the essential elements of Christian faith, worship, life and ministry. Like trees planted at the water's edge, our Anglican roots are nourished by three streams: the Scripture, the Sacred and the Spirit.

  • We hold that Scripture guides our lives and is authoritative for us individually and for the Church at large.
  • We believe the Sacred is embodied in the practices and teachings Christians have held throughout the centuries as expressed in the historic Creeds and 39 Articles of Religion. Our faith has many forms of worship including the sacraments instituted by Jesus.
  • We trust God's Spirit is at work in the Church and the world, manifesting His power and preparing us for ministry.
These three streams flow from one source—the truth of our Christian witness as taught by Jesus and His apostles, and together, the Scripture, the Sacred and the Spirit form a river that defines the core values and distinctives shape our identity and guide our words, actions and worship.

Imperative for Personal Response

The Mission believes God has a specific mission for everyone. We believe serving others puts our faith into action, creating a tangible expression of God's love and transforming power to change our communities everywhere.

Growth within the Mission

The Anglican Mission grows in three ways. We receive active congregations seeking to join; we respond to lay-initiated fellowships that request our assistance in moving to congregational or fellowship affiliation; and we strategically initiate new works. All potential congregations follow specific steps of an affiliation process. Over 60% of our congregations are new works planted with the goal of evangelizing people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
